me: lemme see if we can just post a chat excerpt
cm: haha okay
[five minutes later]
me: okay i'm afraid we can't use that
cm: what?
me: we either go "omg srsly" at each other
   without any context
   or mock ZQ's acting skills
cm: let's mock zq's acting skills

The longer version: Oh hey! We didn't actually hate it! I had mentally prepared myself for so much frothy rage (...we have Sylar issues), but then it was actually kind of enjoyable and whatnot. EXCEPT FOR THE OBVIOUS. Unordered bullet points:

- SYLAR YOU ARE NOT A HERO. You've just been mindfucked by Peter into some kind of smarmy docility yanked around by the writers so much you don't even know anymore how many people you have to ask for "forgiveness" before expecting any kind of *trust* YOU RAPED MATT'S WIFE oh my god sorry I will stop here.

- Milo! Project quietly simmering contempt in the presense of Sylar some more! We like that! Uh, it's not just us, right? Now that we can't obsess over Adrian's acting skills anymore (*cries*), let's talk about the nuances in Milo V's various frowny faces? Maybe he workshopped some of the scenes with Adrian! ...once again, I will stop here. (But srsly.)

- Claire Claire Claire. We always loved you the mostest. The very very end might indeed have been our favourite scene, followed by Noah and Peter being, basically, just some dudes who just saved, well, a tiny part of the world. Yup. (By the way, did anyone else find the Noah/Claire near-death scene kind of awkward to watch? Um.)

- Oh god Hiro. I want to cuddle you so bad. :-( Have to say though, old!Charlie was like, the sweetest, loveliest, shiniest person ever, oh my god. I loved that actress! But oh, Hiro. Even after the most impossible/heartwarming brain tumor removal in the history of superpowers, your love life is still entirely doomed.

- WE MISS YOU NATHAN COME BACK. :-(

- Good will defeat evil if we all literally hold hands ahaha turn the main villain around work together! I mean, the earnest little "everybody, join hands!" had me laugh-cringing for maybe half a minute or so, but it was actually a really nice way of bringing all the heroes (and, uh, others) together in the end. Matt! Tracy! Noah! Claire! Peter! Hiro! Ando! Sylar. Everyone doing their thing to defeat this pathetic little man. It was kinda awesome to watch, yes.

- "My brother didn't let me down. He built me up." Oh, Peter. (Thanks for making the big showdown all about Peter's and Nathan's epic love, show. Explain to us again why you had to kill Nathan for that? Oh, okay then.)

In conclusion, now we actually kinda want that fifth season. Dammit.

Mine as well! Nicely done, show. I really love how it broke things wide open, and how everyone seemed to have mixed feelings about it (aw, she was breaking HRG's heart? Uh, yes, that underground scene was awkward. Thank god for Tracy!). It's either a really awesome launch to the new season, or a cool end to the show as a whole. I would have liked to have seen more of Tracy and Matt, and Mohinder *sniff*, but hey, can't have it all.

Uh, it's not just us, right?

Haha, no! The look on Peter's face when Sylar was childishly crowing over his wire bondage of Doyle was all: uh, unstable much? Fuck, maybe Matt was right...

YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEESSSSSSSSSSSSS! I'll tell you what to do: give her lots of virtual hugs for me. Hold her close over the interwebs and tell her how awesome she is. You both are, but right now we need to extract porn from cm! Dirty, dirty Peter/Dean porn. *purrs*

Oh yes, it was a pretty nifty way to tie things up, but now I'm also kind of interested where they were going to take that from here. Only, you know, really not looking too good for that. Oh, show. :-/

The look on Peter's face

Srsly! I liked how even when they were supposed to be like, displaying some kind of hard-won, ~special bond (argh, touchings), Peter was really just scowling the entire time. Although S4 Peter's been >:-| most of the time anyway, except when around Emma. He's so thoroughly broken at this point, I don't even know if the show is aware of that. Milo seems to be!

and tell her how awesome she is

I keep telling her thisssss! But she just keeps whining about plot and canon and things WHEN REALLY IT'S ALL ABOUT THE PORN. (...there might not be any Peter/Dean, whups? She kind of ran with some other premise, lalala OTP sorry!)

I DON'T CARE WHAT SORT OF PORN, JUST BRING IT!

(oh, you mean Peter/Nathan otp? Yes, yes, that is a more than adequate substitute for Peter/Dean. But more importantly, will there be hair pulling???)

(It really is, isn't it. We are so helpless in the face of suits, sigh.)

That's the OTP I mean, yes, and it's kind of frightening how very O and very, very T it is to us at this point, I mean whoa. Other characters, what? And um, so far I think there's some alpha male snark going on between *Nathan* and Dean, but I'll see what I can do about the hair-pulling! o> <-- that's a salute emoticon, it's kind of my favourite AT LEAST THERE'S PORN NOW. \o/

I adored oldish Charlie too! She was perfect (although I thought/hoped that she and Hiro would kiss). For some reason I don't feel too bad for Hiro? I was just glad that Ando finally used his *very useful* ability for its intended purpose!

Peter's frowny faces are so varied and cute and expressive!

- SYLAR YOU ARE NOT A HERO. You've just been mindfucked by Peter into some kind of smarmy docility

This is one big reason I want a 5th season -- well, at least if it turns out that Peter is fucking with his mind. (If there's no 5th season, I'm pretty sure fandom will en masse interpret their new er, camaraderie - as evidence of their true, sweet love.

Oops sorry I just realised that I was so mean to Hiro. I didn't mean it's not very sad about him losing Charlie in the end -- just that this sort of makes sense, that violating his 'code' didn't work out all that well in the end, you know?

No yes, it made sense that the happily-ever-after just wouldn't be feasible anymore, after everything, and once I was done sputtering about how cruel it was to just rip a girl out of her life and randomly plop her INTO WAR TIMES WHAT SAMUEL WHAT, I could make peace with the fact that Charlie had led a happy life (haha, the only character on this show ever! AND ALL OFFSCREEN) and that Hiro would be glad for her, if entirely heartbroken. Oh Hiro, you so deserve a nice girlfriend and a picket fence and soup. :-(

I'm pretty sure fandom will en masse interpret their new er, camaraderie

WILL? It has already started and I don't foresee an END. Pretty sure Wall!fic will be its own genre soon. THEY ARE BOYFRIENDS NOW CAN'T YOU SEE.

Heh, you're right. Every Single One. (Except for Arthur, I do not accept that Sylar killed him, Peter pulled that trigger and rightly so!)

SHUSH YOUR EARTH LOGIC IS GIVING ME A HEADACHE.

Haha, this is what happens when you value basic logic.

All this would not have to even be a problem at all if Sylar was played by the guy who plays Doyle. (I like ZQ in many ways, I admit. Just not Sylar).

Haha, PETER. I think he's aware of this, but boy does love to cling to his own little made-up memories, so sure, let's say Sylar killed your Dad, bb. But seriously, if you squint? Every single member of Peter's family. Metaphor-raped, noncon-kissed, terrorized, terrorized some more, KILLED aaaaand KILLED AGAIN. Complete mindfuck, dude. WANT A MORE DETAILED LIST, FANDOM?

Also, you just blew my mind a little bit, because sure, of course Sylar has a following because it's ZQ, but to see it put like that makes me want to like, write an essay on hot and, um, Doyle-like villains on prime time US TV and how popular they are, respectively, and how it affects the characters and um anyway, YES. SERIOUSLY.

(PS: Your icon! *pets themmmmmm*)

Yeah, Nathan/Adrian in a suit? &hearts

Did Peter ever accuse Sylar of killing Arthur? I never got the impression that Peter didn't sort of take responsibility for that).

Haha, yeah I think it's snopes_faith who originally brought up the idea of doyle (I don't know the actor's name) vs. zq! I'd be interested in reading that essay, especially 'cos I haven't actually watched a lot of TV shows so can't compare with many. But I was creeped out by my own reaction to Robert Knepper's villain (T-Bag on Prison Break - a white supremacist murderer rapist pedophile -- yet I loved seeing hin onscreen, like most people). He's a good actor and very charismatic. Not that I supported him or wanted him to ever win/be *happy* -- but the show did a good job of using his talent without scarificing other characters for him or making him sympathetic. And unlike Sylar, his character *did* have a lot of interesting qualities ... plus, he was consistently evil and self-serving, they didn't woobify him.

The general willingness and ease with which it seems like Sylar's excused for everything he's done reminded me of this bit by Eddie Izzard:

(They look so haaaaaappy. My heart, my heart.)

And haha, we went back to the episode to check like crazy people and yeah, at the beginning of Dual? Nathan comes in and is like, "Oh, Peter. You did it." and Peter replies, "I tried. It was Sylar." Um, and then I rewatched those five seconds about twenty times, but I'm *almost* sure Milo didn't play that as Peter lying to ease his conscience? However you're interpreting the "I tried" ("I wanted to, but Sylar took it away from me" vs. "I couldn't bring myself to actually do it" vs. something else?), I think he honestly believes that the deed was started by him and finished by Sylar, nevermind that you can't go halfsies on pulling the trigger of a well-aimed gun, Peter.

Ahem. But that was right after, and he might have come to his senses since then? (My god his LIFE.)

I should probably disclaim at this point that I use the phrase "want to write an essay about" as a kind of shorthand for "that is a fascinating topic and someone should research this more thoroughly for me", whups. Sometimes I really wish I was the type to actually sit down and organize my thoughts like that, but I'm really only capable of bullet points at most. BUT ANYWAY! We see your T-Bag and raise you a Jim Profit! \o/ But I guess part of the point is, if you wanted to write Profit/Joanne because the idea was kind of hot (random example here...), you wouldn't expect it to be anything but fucked up. IT CAN'T NOT BE. EVEN THOUGH JIM IS BEAUTIFUL. (Sidenote: How beautiful is AP? It's disconcerting.)

In conclusion, Eddie Izzard! I love his earlier routines, they never get old! Also, hee, yes. Death, death, death, death, LUNCH.

Oh good, thank you for being crazy people so that I didn't have to be ;) (But man, now that I remember that episode arc - I loved the Rene/Peter car scene so much. I wish the two of them interacted more. Rene is so invested in his well-being).

I found it impossible to read that scene as anything except Peter being a tiny bit petulant that Sylar took away the deed. Peter's hatred of Arthur (post-hug) was pretty damn consistent. So yeah, I agree.

We see your T-Bag and raise you a Jim Profit! \o/

OK, YOU WIN

I have to rewatch that series, I really do. You know what I found guiltily amazing? Profit/Nora. It was so manipulative and horrifying. What an amazing actor. I don't understand why he hasn't gotten more work/recognition. But yeah, it can't be anything but fucked up.

Which reminds me that much as I am not personally interested in Sylar/Elle (or Sylar/anyone, especially not /any female), I read a Sylar/Elle story (ETA to pre-emptively defend self: only because I really liked the author's other work!) that I actually really liked for that reason. It was completely fucked up.

Aw, Charlie is just so sweet! What a great character. I love her so much as Emma on Glee, though - maybe even more.

Pretty sure Wall!fic will be its own genre soon.

ARGHHHH NOOOOO. I skimmed a few Peter/Sylar fics when they started popping up -- formulaic & OOC describes too many (Peter's practically a whiny baby with no willpower whatsover in most ... and while he has his faults, that is not one of them, especially not over the past 2 seasons). I stopped.

BUT, and I have to apologise for not giving proper feedback yet - I have loved your/cm's Peter & Sylar (+Nathan!) stories. I found then kind of overwhelming (and very bittersweet, in some ways) so am waiting 'til I'm in the right mood to re-read.

And HAHAHA did you see how Peter punched Samuel out in the finale? What an excellent nursing school he went to.

Man, I don't even want to diss anyone's ship (usually) but, like, PEOPLE. It's Peter Petrelli and Sylar, I don't even know what to say. You'd have to work so very hard to make that even remotely work, WHY NOT GO FOR SOMETHING EASIER. Like, I don't know, Peter and a tree. I'M SURE HE LIKES TREES.

...ahem. (Also, you don't *owe* us/cm feedback, meep, but thank you for saying that, we love you!)

did you see how Peter punched Samuel out in the finale?

I... might have clapped a little. No okay, my actual reaction was (*rummage*) "EEEEEP DO THAT TO SYLAR NOW ONLY HARDER" which I still stand by, ahem. That was a good punch. He learned that in nursing school all right.

WHY NOT GO FOR SOMETHING EASIER. Like, I don't know, Peter and a tree. I'M SURE HE LIKES TREES.

Heehee. Aw, yes. Peter loves trees; he even talks to them, I like to think. He's a bit strange.

I know nobody owes anyone feedback but I like to, especially when I'm really impressed by/affected by something. But sometimes when I'm feeling a bit manic I tend to go on and on and probably am kind of annoying to the writers.

OH, I read an interview with Grunny recently, he was talking about MV's characterisation and how he used to be a nurse and turned into Rambo at some point. I love it :D

Date: 2010-02-10 09:19 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] mumblemutter.livejournal.com
OMG nooooo that's the best kind of feedback! Um, I'm saying this as someone who merely handholds the writer through the process and pokes the fic into shape a bit, but long, rambly comments are awesome, come on! cm's just too neurotic to actually talk back about her own writing, so she'll just resort to thankyous and fidgeting in reply. *g* But ahem, yes, anyway. ♥♥♥

And ha, I read that interview and very much enjoyed that part, too. Glad it's not just us who NOTICES. It was probably Milo who demanded to get to blow shit up. Oh Milo.

But... but Peter liked to punch people a lot back in S1 too. Well, mostly Nathan and Sylar but still. Punching!Peter is canon. Peter handling all sorts of weapons was ridiculous though (save the nailgun). I agree with that.

Haha, yeah! That one he landed on Nathan was pretty awesome. He's always been a bratty bottom.

(I think Greg was joking about the writing, rather than Milo? I know the dude has long wanted Peter to man up, but I doubt he has enough sway to say: hey, let's do a couple of eps in Haiti, guys!)

Greg should get some sort of PR bonus, btw. I don't know how he maintains so much enthusiasm in the face of such overwhelming criticism. I want whatever drug he's having!

He's always been a bratty bottom.

Yeah, he's always been bitchy and bratty and that's why I dislike it so much when he is portrayed as this innocent little sheep in fic.

Greg is really the only one left that seems to display some enthusiasm. Though compared to how exuberant he was before, even he seems disappointed. I personally am a bit miffy on him ever since he said the Petrelli brothers are safe when that big death spoiler surfaced. I still don't know what that was about...
