1) why is there a torrent for the new shear genius but none for the new drag race? i object mightily! okay possibly not mightily, because shear genius is kind of awesome fun (who knew you could make a reality tv program about who can do the best dye job in under two hours?) but still. sad!

2) things that are confusing: twelve-thousand words of future!fic in which i pretend that i'm writing simon petrelli/peter petrelli but in actual fact it's awful genfic in which they do nothing but talk about their feelings and never once contemplate getting naked with one another. um, what, brain. really? that's where you're going? okay then.

3) okay i keep hearing/reading about sendhil being unhappy that the heroes staff writers decided to butcher his character give mohinder the flyhinder storyline in v3 but it's always been people talking about his unhappiness? are there interviews or something where he outright said "this shit is whack?" only you know, more eloquently, because he's a classy sort of guy, and i'm not.

4) i wanted to say something about american idol, but it kind of ended up with me going: PANTS!!! and then randomly slamming my fingers down on the keyboard to express my...well i wouldn't call it rage? more like "why did that dude go home when his suckiness was at least crazy+entertaining instead of this other dude who is basically just wasting space on primetime tv?" and so on, but you know, hey. top twelve, finally. and every year i pray for another sanjaya, but i keep getting foiled. why?!

5) uh, five is a nice number, hi? tell me something good/bad/interesting, hey.

So. You are a reality tv /competition tv junkie, right? I AM!!

I was just wondering. There was this silly thing called 'Launch my Line' with D-Squared and that choreographer (Dan Kar(r)aty) from So you think you can dance that got eliminated in the first round. LOL. Anyways, I never found a torrent of the final two episodes. So maybe you watched it, too? And know where to find it? Halp?

IF NOT: IGNORE! :D

oh, yes yes i am hi let's make a support group!

and i did in fact watch like, episode one of that! and then i was really sad that dan-the-douche got eliminated because he was so hot, and i stopped watching! um, the final ep is on thepiratebay if that helps? i think they never bothered to upload the 108 but did do 109? the small reality tv shows are horrible when it comes to torrents omg!

I did find that after a thorough search this morning. I HATE that there is one ep missing. grrr. I saw the first part of the first season of shear genius, but then there were no more torrents and I gave up on it.

YES! Dan-the-douche. OMG. Like, 'HEY, designing things can't be THAT hard. I am such a creative person and all. IT'S RIGHT UP MY ALLEY!!' Only, not. BUT I really always thought he was hot when he was on SYTYCD. But there he heardly ever talks, so.... ? :D

YES, SUPPORT GROUP. I'M IN.

oh oh also, fellow reality tv/competition junkie, what else do you watch?! so far besides shear genius and drag race i'm also watching project runway? and sometimes i watch sytycd as well. i know amazing race is good? but for some reason all their running around makes me exhausted and then i get really invested in the ones i like and they often lose and then i feel sad, so i stopped and now i focus on like, the ones where they make people look pretty and stuff. \o/

OKAY, HERE IT GOES.

I watch The Amazing Race and The Apprentice (both the US and the UK version), Top Chef, Project Runway, American Idol (sometimes), America's Next Top Model, Germany's Top Model, So You Think You Can Dance & Kitchen Nightmares.

Wow, that some list.

I kind of hate Survivor.

And I do like The Amazing race because I am usually mildy amused by the cultural and geographical incompetence a lot of the american teams bring to the game.

My all-time favourite trashy reality tv competition is all three seasons of Rock of Love. OMG, that was endlessly amusing and full of STDs and skanks and scheming. IT WAS AWESOME. Ahem.

the apprentice! i used to watch it and then i got really annoyed by donald trump and so i stopped - although i did watch the martha stewart one, too bad it only lasted a season! also yes on top chef and AI and ANTM (i also catch canada's, australia's and britain's as well). i shall look out for kitchen nightmares!

have not watched survivor in years, because the later seasons kind of drove me nuts.

(oh god yes inoright? but like, i feel it's too scary though um. i get afraid when i'm watching figure skating competitions because i am in fact THAT WEIRD, and so yeah. too much stress!)

i have to check out rock of love, omg!

Donald Trump. OH MAN. Some of his decisions were realy infuriating. But the season with the very drunk Dennis Rodman and Joan & Melissa Rivers was VERY entertaining. The bitching was at an all-time high during that. Which is all you could ever want from The Apprentice. The british Apprentice is really good, though, because a) british accents (!!!) and b) longer episodes (around 55 minutes) with a lot of focus on the task. The US Apprentice seems to be all about the boardroom lately.

I totally get the afraid thing. I am hardly ever squicked or afraid, my pet peeve is injustice. Like, season 1 of Ugly Betty was REALLY hard for me to watch because the bad guys always seemed to win and she never seemed to catch a break. That really pains me a lot. And Survivor usually works that way. The scheming awful people get ahead and that is so uncomfortable for me to watch. Weird, right? I have no idea why...

Rock of Love is with ex-Poison singer Brett Michaels (or hwoever you spell that) and he is looking for the love of his live on an mtv show. AHAHA, REALLY? Lots of breast implants and tattoos and drinking and making out. HIGH-LARIOUS.

And lastly, Gordon Ramsay. I... I really find his yelling and cursing entertaining. It is too dramatic lately in Hell's Kitchen, but in Kitchen Nightmares it's okay. And he seems like he has a good sense of humour. Plus cooking, always an incentive for me to check a show out. :D

OMG. Where is that support group. I don't think I have written that much in depth stuff about a decent tv-show in a while... But trash tv? I could discuss for hours...

maybe i'll just download that season then. i'm not really sure why i stopped watching oh wait it's because that awesome woman he had from the first few seasons left and then they replaced her with his daughter? who is lovely and all that but like, i wanted her back. or the UK one. i love the UK interpretations of things!

oh man so much yes on the injustice thing as well! it's also why i stopped watching UB, no lie (like, i love wilhema or whillemena or um, however you spell her name? but she really got so mean at some point and i was like "nooo good triumphs over evil, this is so wrong!). and there was that one season of the amazing race where that awful, awful couple won? and after that i was just :( all the way, and that coupled with my stress level over my favorite teams? i decided it just wasn't worth the pressure. tv shows should be fun!

(we should totally start a weekly support group where we talk about this week in trash tv! and by support group um, what i really mean is where we blather on and pretend we're above it all but REALLY IT'S SAD THAT THIS DUDE GOT KICKED OFF IN FAVOR OF THE OTHER ONE WHAT IS WRONG WITH ME. um, maybe um. hi.)

I love Ivanka. I didn't see the early seasons, so I have no problem with that. But I do think Donald Trump is weird. The UK one is with normal people, no celebrities. And Sir Allan Sugar! He is cool. And his posh old-ish right hands Margret and whathisname. They do a lot of eye-rolling at the contestants. It's entertaining. The new season should start soonish.

YES! Wilhe(l)lmina. OMG. The first season was really painful that way. Yes, it's so mean on The Amazing Race, too. But I don't mind that so much. Maybe I just connected more with Betty. But I totally agree. Too much pressure is no fun. I LIKE shallow. :D

LIKE! So you think you can dance Australia. THEY VOTED OFF MY FAV GIRL. NOOOOOO. I was really pissed. And I am regularly really pissed at the judges on the german version of AI. Because they don't even judge the singing so much as the package. If a girl shows tits and ass they totally think she is better than that dud that sang so wonderful. ARGH.

YES! Let's meet here once a week. :D

i love ivanka as well! i just...i'm not sure, i got disillusioned during one season and never went back. i feel i should though!

hrm, i tried to watch SYTYCD australia! but like, it's only fun when i watch it with someone else, honestly, or else my attention just shifts, whups. i wish i could watch the german version of things! clearly i need to learn german at some point, yes? \o/ although that sounds like it sucks though, the way they judge.

1. I want to see shear genius! Also I got tired of the lack of torrents so I DLd this [ http://hotspotshield.com/ ] - it's an IP blocker so it can't tell that you're not in the US, so you can watch the show on the logo website. Not sure if it will work for you since you said that stuff doesn't stream that well there? It tends to slow my computer down a bit while I have it switched on. But it works!

2. Nothing that wrong with genfic :) Is all I have to say.

1. it's kind of awesome in its own way! who knew you could take hairstyles so seriously?...also i dled hotspotshield and it totally threw my computer into a frenzy, so weird! *pokes cautiously at it*

2. ah, people keep saying that, but it's a lie. *smushes characters together*

1. Oh, oops sorry. I hope it didn't break anything!

2. Um, I'd read Peter/Simon! Genfic or not. I used to think that cross-generational incest in fiction = not ok. But er, my list of exceptions is growing, arbitrarily (eg, Noah/Claire = NOOOOO. Peter/Claire = I don't quite get it. Nathan/Claire = why not, yes!) Also one of my favourite films has a father-daughter thing going on, but because it's got Daniel Day-Lewis, it's all good. Why I felt the need to talk about that, I don't know.

1. i think it will be okay it's not your fault! it's mostly my laptop, it sucks!

2. Nathan/Claire = why not, yes! <--not gonna lie, i've read it? i think that it's mostly (well i mean i speak for me personally? i know people have their own squicks and i respect that and i understand WHY someone would be squicked by nathan/claire?) about how i see the characters as perceiving each other? like noah/claire, their relationship is so about him being a dad to her. nathan's just a sperm donor. so i have no issues with peter/simon because i think it's unlikely that peter played a big role in raising the boys? unless he did, in which case no, probably? but again, YMMV, i write nathan sometimes as almost raising peter and i still find it okay um. hi welcome to me and my lack of consistency. also peter/claire <---agree with you on the not getting it, idk it's mostly just boring to me.

But er, my list of exceptions is growing, arbitrarily

i sometimes feel that fandom has ruined me. i used to think a lot of things weren't okay! well, i mean fictionally. non-fictionally my opinion really hasn't changed that much.

...what movie is that?

I'm with you completely on #2! Especially on why I'm not that keen on Noah/Claire.

Squicks are a funny thing; I've been trying to figure out what mine are really (as opposed to preferences) and I think that it's major possessiveness/jealousy, in het or slash. But even that has exceptions (in the case of Nathan/Peter, to some degree, because their relationship is so dysfunctional and I can *understand* that they're a bit insane and equally possessive of each other, while - usuallly - trying not to be because they know it's not a good thing. It's something I try to balance when writing - not sure if I've been successful with that).

Anyway, I haven't read much Nathan/Claire (do you have any recs?), but this is one that I really liked. (Um, it's pretty intense, just a warning). Also I remember that trekker wrote one but I can't find it. The first Nathan/Claire fics I read were -- well, this author's stories were good in many ways, but then in each one, Nathan eventually turned into this raging jealous maniac and then it turned out she was a virgin so he settled down. :( And that hit my squicks so hard because:

1. Consensual or not, he's taking advantage of his daughter to some degree and is in no position to lecture. That just turned an already suspect situation into abuse and him into an unsympathetic character.
2. Virginity-fetishization. Ew.

i sometimes feel that fandom has ruined me. i used to think a lot of things weren't okay!

Aw. I'd say that's too bad but that would be a lie, because now we get smutty fairy-tale incest underage pee fic from you, and that makes me happy. The things I think are OK in fic almost exactly mirror what I think is OK in life. (Except for dub-con which I think *can* be OK in fic sometimes, depending on the writing and context. But not ever ok in life).

The movie is 'The Ballad of Jack and Rose' and someone put the whole thing on youtube!

i think that when it comes to RL stuff i'm just about the same as you, only the things that i enjoy reading sometimes skew towards non-con/dub-con/heavily abusive relationships (hence my secret enjoyment of the mylar), and that's really what i mean when i talk about RL vs. fanfic kinks as well. pretty sure watersports is still a borderline squick (but hrm, now that i think about it it's probably more a preference than anything else? i don't automatically go DNW when i come across watersports in fic, if it's there i'm fine but i won't particularly seek it out? plus i wrote it, and i have never and will never write something that squicks me, why would i?). possibly it's that i've been peed on by my guinea pigs so many times i can't think of it in a sexual manner at all anymore, it's like, one moment you're cuddling and the next moment PEE, that is not on, silly piggies. but then everytime A. betas one of my fics she's like "look i'm pretty sure this whole thing with the biting and the bleeding is painful can you change it?" and i'm like "yes um, that's the POINT i'm not changing it" so hey, kinks! *rambles stupidly, uh* my stories would probably involve a lot more bloodsports if not for her, ahem.

oh hey, that fic was great, thank you for linking to it! um, i keep trying to find this one fic that was set in mexico that was claire/nathan but i can't and at this point i am starting to think i made it up somehow and that's so sad omg! i will try to put together a tiny rec list for you though, once i can get past this mysterious made-up fic of mine that i'm obsessed with finding now.

weirdly, jealousy/possessiveness written in a particular way can be a kink for me? although not when coupled with the inherent power issues involved in nathan/claire already PLUS the fetishization of virginity, wow.

trying to think of what an actual squick of mine is. uh, probably sexual abuse of a child written in explicit detail? that really gets my goat for some reason.

thank you for the link to the ballad of jack and rose movie! \o/

Um, yes! Understandably! I don't know if I've ever come across that written in fanfic. Although, well, I've come across fic in which adults are written to seem younger. Not fun.

Really watersports is a slight squick for you. I feel like such a perv now :( Hee. I understand, though. I used to find the idea kind of strange, until, well. I didn't anymore. But that's so cute about the guinea pigs! Aw.

Thanks so much for the recs!

I don't *dislike* Peter/Claire at all, it's just not my preference. Maybe 'cos they're so cute together? Maybe because I think that Peter should only be with Nathan older, dominant people? And that Claire should only be with Lydia older, dominant people? :)

Nathan and Claire have all this tension between them and I think they're a little bit scared of each other, which for some reason works for me. I don't even know why.

oh god yes um, i don't want to keep talking about that particular fic? but omg why does he act like he's six. why!

no, it's not a squick omg! idk i think ultimately i'm mostly squicked by bad writing in general. a good writer (like you!) pretty much makes everything okay.

ahem, yes and also yes. ahem ahem. especially on the peter part. *waves little otp flag defiantly*

i think that the whole mexico thing pretty much sealed the deal when it comes to these two? like, omg writers what were you thinking? but on second thought, good job!

I don't know what it says about me that out of my 53 Heroes bookmarks over at delicious.com, only 3 are f/m and one is f/m/m and and the only one that *isn't* some variation of Petrellicest is that Nathan/Monica ficlet you linked me to (which is practically gen). So, um.

Anyway, there's this and this? I know I once read one that was dub-con verging on non-con, where Claire was supposed to assassinate Nathan, which freaked me out so much, but was well-written I think? Didn't bookmark, though. Ditto on the Mexico one that cm mentioned, dammit. Oh, and Trekker wrote P/C/N, it's on her site, but hey, now I wanna know if she did N/C and where it is, too. *is completely unhelpful* OH WAIT. We *just* remembered to check the delicious tag for more. Try this and this (ahaha I love how there's more than a handful of fics where "welcome to the Petrelli family" means "let's fuck!"), oh and found the dub-con one here. Oh, and cm is reading this right now and just described it as "borderline abusive but i love it so i shouldn't judge" so there you go. ETA: cm would like to amend her verdict to "it's so fucked up holy shit" and "eh, too much claire/peter" so approach with caution? Son of ETA: Okay don't read this. DONE NOW.

Also, much like cm, I find the mere thought of Noah/Claire utterly flummoxing (he's her FATHER, oh my god), whereas Nathan is just some stranger in a really hot suit to her. Not saying she could have a thing for older guys in hot suits, ahem.

I find possessiveness and jealousy-leading-to-rough-sex super-hot if done right, but it makes me extremely uncomfortable if it's framed as some sort of "I'll show you who owns your ass, you slut" display of machismo, blurgh. And in the context of Nathan/Claire, ahaha oh god the implications.

KINKS! \o/

Oh thank you, thank you, so much. This is completely amazing. So many recs! And um, warning me with a son of ETA to not read it makes me really, really want to read it :D

Right, the Nathan/Claire story by trekker is: here. Um, also this, another of those 'welcome to the Petrelli family' ones.

but it makes me extremely uncomfortable if it's framed as some sort of "I'll show you who owns your ass, you slut" display of machismo

Exactly :) It's hard for me to explain (even to myself) why I find it fine once in a while, and a squick at other times. It depends on the pairing, what's going on (plain old sexual jealousy/insecurity is kinda boring imo, especially when the pairing is het; but real jealousy disguised or channeled as sexual jealousy can be interesting) and also I don't find humiliation fun if it's not a game. Also, I don't think it makes sense to use slut/whore as an insult. *is protective of whores*

Thanks again. Kinks, yes! \o/

Ahaha, I told cm right after the last edit, if I was Anansi *this* would be the first link I click on, like, automatically. Fandom does that to you. (*weeps*) Apparently it's really Claire/Peter, but Peter refuses to go all the way and Claire is like :-( and then Nathan finds out about them and is like, fuck that, there's nothing wrong with intergenerational incest, and proceeds to seduce her, properly:

cm: like buying her stuff and what not?
and then at some point he takes her to a hotel room
   and fucks her
me: NATHAN!
cm: She loved it. Every second of it. It felt fabulous and no one was worried and whining. <---MY FAVORITE LINE SO FAR
IT FELT FABULOUS AND NO ONE WAS WORRIED AND WHINING
   peter: I'M SORRY I HAVE A CONSCIENCE
me: AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH

There were tears. In my eyes. But uh, apparently, this makes it sound funner than it actually is and cm was pretty unsettled at the end, which is why the anti-rec. Ahem. Saved you a click! And thank you for the links, whee!

(There's a scene in a Supernatural ep where a possessed priest in a convent calls a nun "slut" and I was so flummoxed and cm was like, dude, it's a demon, it's what they do on this show. And I was like, BUT IT'S A NUN. AN ACTUAL NUN. Does he know what the word means! I'm still not over that, ahem. The way that word just gets thrown around! What!)
